I was going to adopt my first gerbil fromt he atlanta humane society but I just checked the site and it appears that Buddy has been adopted.

I am rather against getting pets at pet stores, is there any other rescues, shelters or adoptions of gerbils in around the atlanta area? I will consider a responsible breeder as well.

Thanks

Aww, that's to bad you couldn't get him. But it's good that he was adopted too, just sad not by you. :(

You will LOVE gerbils! they make great pets!
Here is a link to two AGS Breeders in Georgia -AGS Link (http://www.agsgerbils.org/Georgia.html)

Here's the AGS Web Site (http://www.agsgerbils.org/)
And the NGS Site (http://www.gerbils.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/)
Lot's of info, and links on both those sites.
There are also "Yahoo Groups" for gerbils, and then the AGS classifides where you can post what your looking for and where you are. To bad your not closer to here, we have quite a few gerbies in the SPCA's :(

Good Luck on your adoption process!

Thanks Andrea! I was at petfinder and there are like so many listed in IN and OH. Wish I was closer.

:-)
I'm actually in the process of learning more about mice, so I can get a couple. I think it's funny how they are kinda opposite then gerbils, females can be kept in large groups while males will fight, totally opposite with gerbils! Ya learn something new everyday :)

Good luck in your search!

Well check this out...

I decided to call the shelter today and Buddy was still available! Not sure why he was 'adopted' at the website but I am glad I called.

He is a big guy with short from legs, big fat short tail. White in color and missing some fur. Not very friendly and has been there a year! So we adopted him. LOL Not exactly what I was looking for but maybe with TLC he will learn to like people again. He's not agressive, just not overly friendly. He did take a sunflower seed from my hand.

I am still going to talk to a few of these breeders that were listed. There are a couple cloe to me, no one seems to have any right now. That is fine though. I have Buddy now and will work with him. I will stay on a waiting list and get a pair from a breeder when they are available.

I will have pictures next week. Thanks for the links. Oh here he is at petfinder

Congratulations!
That's so wonderful you got him!
Give him some time, with TLC he we be a loving pet soon enough. I had a rescue and it took a while, but she did get better.
Maybe you can get a young baby boy gerbie to introduce to him so he won't be lonley. :)

I made a gerbil page. Not to take away from here of course. But I was missing him while at work so created a forum.
