I have a female cat that sprays. I know she is female because she has had kittens and she has since been spayed, but for some reason she sprays just as a male cat does. http://petshub.com/ubb/eek.gif Has anyone heard of such a thing and what can be done about it?

I had a female that was spayed late, emergancy job to abort kittens that had died.
Anyway, about a year after she was spayed she started spraying, and not just anywhere, but on the stover burners, when we were asleep at night.
If you have never smelled it, the only thing I can compare it to is fresh skunk spray.
As for what to do about it, I haven't a clue. I have heard that there are products that will discourage this, but I never found one that worked the way they said it would.
I should also say that we had 7 Cats at the time and she had always been top cat. I think she was just marking her territory. She stopped after a while, but then she got sick and died so I don't know if that is why she stopped.
Best of luck finding an answer.

Hi Animallover,
I think she wants to mark her territory there. This is done so that other cats who comes over knows another cat has "taken over" that place. http://petshub.com/ubb/wink.gif
How is your female cat?
