Hi lovechick,
Don't worry. I think it will grow back. Most birds take some time to grow their feathers back when it is purposely being plucked out. It is good news that the chest has feathers growing!
Tell your relatives, friends that your lovebird is fine and is going through "shedding" period. http://petshub.com/ubb/wink.gif

thats good news lovechick...
the wee grey bits are his down feathers, these are the feathers that keep him warm so the grey feathers are perfectly normal.
keep spraying regularly with just plain water and you should see a difference in his appearance after a few days of this.by spraying him you will be encouraging him to preen and to spread the natural oils that he produces through his feathers trhus making them supple and healthy looking.
He should also be given plenty of calcium at this time as this is what the feathers need in order to grow back and strongly.
Calcium can be given to him by offering him cuttlefish bone or even a small bone from the butchers (but they tend to smell a wee bit!!!)
as for your friends and visitors to the house who are afraid they'll catch something from him....
use this to your advantage and repeat what you have learned from these pages and from the people in here at PetsHub and your friends and visitors will have a different reaction to him.
At the moment they are being told that nobody knows whats wrong with him, so their imagination then makes up something that they think could be wrong with him...
use their ignorance to make your knowledge shine through... http://petshub.com/ubb/tongue.gif
