Does the advice given for the feather plucking lovebird also apply to cockatiels?
I have recently accquired two male cockies that were neglected by the previous owners and one of them is plucking himself bald! he has been doing this i found out for approx 2 yrs:-( The other bird seems fine if a little quiet but i'm very worried that if i can't help him break this habit that he will do himself serious damage any help is much appreciated.

Hi, I have a featherplicking lovebird too, anywayz I got him from my friend and she has a lot of little kids in her house and they were bothering poor bird non-stop! but now he doesen't do that anymore! so I think it's becaue of stress give it some time and try putting birds somewhere high cause they like to look down on people also try give the bird plenty of room to play and a lot of toys to keep them busy if he will play more he will forget about plucking and try not to bother them also you can buy some vitamins for bird in pet store and they also sell all kinds of anti-plucking sprays but they might not work. give the bird everyday bath in the plate so that he can clean himself. If you can afford going to the vet that would be a good choice too. There are a lot of options on treating plucking but not all of them work you just need a little patience give the birds as quiet invironment as possible and plenty of fruits and vitamins but don't give chocolate or avocado it's deadly for birds. Also go to www.birdhotline.com and go down to answers&questions and they have article on how to manage feather plucking.
Well I hope this helps! Good luck!

linzzi, your situation sounds a lots like lovechick. http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif Follow lovechick's advise, as her lovebird is growing feathers already. http://petshub.com/ubb/wink.gif

hi Linzzi and wlcome to PetsHub.

The advice offered for feather plucking can and normally does apply to ALL birds.

With your two birds are they in a cage big enough to house two cockatiels?
Is the cage overcrowded with toys?
Have they been checked for mites?
do they get regular baths?

cockatiels love water and really enjoy being soaked by a light spray be it from a spraybottle or even the hosepipe in the garden ( thats what mine get...)
