Ok, I am definately going to go with sugar gliders. Does anyone have hints or ideas on how to build the perfect cage?
I know it has to be BIG to allow play and glide room. I am going to be building the cage into an exsiting closet. The opening is about 8 feet wide and 6 feet tall.
I know that the "fencing" has to be small, but any hints on the inXin per side? Or better materials. Chicken wire worries me I was looking at something that was 1/2inX1/2 openings metal squares covered in a thin plastic...I have to check to see if if the coating is non-toxic....
Thanks for your help everyone!

Thanks for the link, I had seen that before. But that cage is much smaller that what I was thinkings.
I am thinking 6 ft long by 3 feet deep by 6-7 ft high. I think I am going to tare apart one of my closets and build it into that. Thanks for the help though.

No problem...
When I get my camera back in working order I'll show you a picture of my glider cage. Its not in a closet, though thats a great idea. It measures at 7' tall, 4' wide and 4' deep.
I had to modify a lot, but I copied the basics from that link. :)

Thanks again to everyone for all there help. Sadly I have to put off getting the sugar gliders. Not only are they illegal in MA ( which I was somewhat ingnoring ) but I just found out I am pregnant. And with a baby I am not going to have 4-5 hours a day to devote to them so it just wouldn't be fair to them. One day when I have a bigger house and more time I will still have them, just not now.

Ok a friend is giving me a baby sugar glider! I'm excited and I'm doing my research and all. I only want one and it will most likely be with me all the time.
Now do they sleep all day? I would take it with me everywhere. I really want this little guy to have a true companion.
Also, after they have bonded to you, is it a good idea to take them outside? Will they stay with you or if they do glide off to a tree will they come back? I know the bonding period can be a very long one, but I ask this because I want to be aware.
More questions soon. Thanks,
Lu

Wow tearing apart a closet, that is a great idea!!! I actually am going to pick up my new joey on Saturday and I just found out my mom threw away my huge cage that I had from my last sugar glider :splat:!!! I couldn't believe it, I paid 300 bucks for that thing. I got a sugar glider when I was 10 and it lwas 15 when it passed away of old age....I do have a spare bedroom with a closet that just has junk in it. I could just throw all that stuff in my attic. Thanks for the excellent idea, I am now going to go check out some ideas for it....I was thinking for a door, you can making a door for it that would open or take the exsiting door and cut out the whole middle and just leave a thin wood border for the hinges a to give it a frame, and then screen the whole door???? do you have any yet?
Thanks! Kristal
