I was just randomly searching the web and found a site where they are working on genetically engineering wings from pig tissue and rat cells.....
Pig wings? (http://www.tca.uwa.edu.au/pig/pig_main.html)

that is just so extremely wrong! theres people in Africa dying of aids, and animals in shelters that are going to be put down to sleep, and they're think about what, making pig wings! I'm really sorry, but thats where I totally draw the line! I didn't even really read throught the whole thing, but that is S-I-C-K! underline that and put that in bold, sick! I think that we should write letters, what they are doing could be illegal! :(

In that case, I'm going to have to do a lot of things because I stated I would "when pigs fly".

On a more serious note, that is quite stupid. Do they really need to mess around with an animal? What's wrong with the way it is? I say if the animal wasn't made to fly, so be it. Are they trying to prove something with this? Now really, what do they gain by making a pig fly? The things some people will do...

Out of all the stupid things someone could do to a animal, this has got to be one of the stupidist!

What are they going to do next put a cow in everyones house so The Cows Can Come Home! lol

I just don't see how you can make a pig fly. Even after giving it wings, who says the pig will know what they're for? Pigs weren't made for flying, so I don't see why some people think it should be done. What does a pig need to be in the air for? LOL, it's one of dumbest things, yet it is kinda funny.

They're not even using actual pigs, but just pig tissue. This is simply an experiment to see "what happens" in this sort of realm; they're not trying to make pigs fly. It's a rather odd experiment in the realm of xenotransplantation, I'll admit, but they're not actually hurting any animals or growing these things on any animals.

It's an odd sort of project that encompasses both art and science; two of the main people involved are also "biological artists" who presented their pig wing work at the Adelaide Biennale of Australian Art in 2002.

This is Awesome!
They arent harming any animals and they might make a discovery other than what pig wings look like.
It could make great advances in xenotransplant technology.
All you guys need to GET WITH THE TIMES MAN!! :flower: :flower:

PS I am not a hippie, sorry

Yes, but what are we gaining? Whats the purpose? Like someone stated earlier, if pigs were meant to fly, they would have wings. Its a total waste of time, and money. Whoever is funding that really needs to know that there is NO gain in this, we're just losing money to some sort of theory people are producing about "pigs flying". Whats next, chickens becoming guard dogs? Do you think its illegal? I'm just curious. By the way, who finds this kind of dumb pig wing thing? I wonder if vets agree with this, or think its a total waste of time & money. Oh, and theres another point. What happens if/when the pigs wing suddenly becomes damaged? In my personal view, I don't think any vets are going to know how to treat/ cure this. Anyways, someone should really do something about it.

Can you guys imagine getting dive bombed by a pig like birds sometimes do? That would really hurt.
