Hello, we’ve just purchased three young hens, one of which lays every second day and we let them out of their pen every morning to have the run of the yard. My husband potters around the yard most of the day so they are used to him, in fact one often jumps onto the kitchen window-sill and peers inside to see what I’m up to!! We’ve noticed that each day, around 4pm, they all gather in our verandah and hang around for about an hour before moving into their pen to roost for the night. Does anyone know why they do this? Are they waiting for us to feed them something special? Or are they just being friendly and want a bit of human company? Would love to know the reason why they do this.
