Gerbil Choices

Gerbils are basically herbivores and prefer grains. They should have freshly milled pellets available at all times. Your gerbil will normally nibble throughout the day and night, unlike other adopted pets who normally eat their entire meal in one sitting. Like humans, they snack whenever they wish and as often as they wish.

There are numerous types of pellets to choose from. Therefore, it becomes personal preference between you and your gerbil to decide which one will make up the bulk of his diet.

You can buy prepackaged pellets, gerbil seed mixes, get lab blocks of food, or even make your own. Whatever you choose, however, just make sure you supplement any diet with fresh fruits and veggies and, if you and your pet are so inclined, small insects, crickets, wax worms, or mealworms.
